General Enrollment checklist - Fall 2008


This checklist provides an overview of the common steps necessary to enroll at the Lawrence campus for the Fall 2008 semester.

  1. Clear any enrollment holds. Follow the instructions noted on the Enroll and Pay system.
  2. Meet with your advisor to prepare your schedule. Be sure to list alternate classes in case there are problems with your first choices. Advising information:
    CAUTION: If you are enrolling in a variable credit course (example: a course that can be taken for 1.0 to 3.0 hours) be sure to choose the number of hours you need to be enrolled in.

    International students and citizens whose first language is not English must also see the AEC office, 204 Lippincott Hall for further enrollment instructions. If you attend New Student Orientation, you will be advised during the program.

    If a release is required, be sure you obtain your advisor's release prior to leaving your appointment .

  3. If you want to exceed the maximum number of hours allowed by your school, you must obtain permission from your school on a schedule change form. Any hours added over your maximum must be completed offline at the Student Records Center, 151 Strong Hall. All students must have the Dean's approval for enrolling in excess hours. See the maximum hours chart for maximum hour limits.
  4. Obtain Permission Codes if necessary. Courses that require special permission are displayed as Instructor consent or Department consent. Permission codes are available from the instructor or department (depending upon the type of approval required).
  5. Check for Class Availability. Class availability may be determined at : www.opensections.ku.edu/, or in the Schedule of Classes in the Enroll and Pay system. If a class is closed but you have permission from the instructor or department to take the class this permission code must be entered in Enroll & Pay in order to enroll in the class. 206 Summerfield for Business courses, 201 Stauffer-Flint for Journalism courses, Engineering Department Offices for Engineering courses.
  6. Submit applications for tuition adjustments, if applicable. Types of tuition adjustments can be found in the tuition and fees section. Applications must be submitted by July 7, 2008 to appear on your tuition bill. The last day to submit applications for all tuition adjustments is September 22, 2008. Forms for applying for special rates can be found on the forms page.
  7. Check your schedule, billing address and assessment for errors. If you note errors with your schedule or billing address, correct these via Enroll & Pay.
    If you find an error on your assessment, contact assessment@ku.edu or call (785) 864-4472.
  8. If you need a new or replacement identification card go to the KU Card Center, fourth floor, Kansas Union. Take a valid government-issued photo ID (driver's license, passport, military ID, or state ID) and class schedule. Your official name is printed on the KU Card; thus, the photo ID you present must contain your official name, and it must match your name as it appears in the university student system. Office hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The cards cost $10 (new)/$15 (replacement) which will be assessed to your student account.
  9. Add/Drop/Change Sections. Once you have enrolled you may make changes to your schedule online, until May 31, 2008 for undergraduates. You may begin making changes again on August 1, 2008.
    Be sure to consult your advisor and/or school regarding changes and obtain permissions as needed. See Approval Requirements for Add/Drop.
    CAUTION: The last day to receive a 100% refund/adjustment is August 20, 2008. Changes to your schedule after this date may result in partial or no refund of tuition. See Refunds/Adjustments for more detail.
  10. If you decide not to attend the University of Kansas in the Fall 2008 and have already completed enrollment you must withdraw from the University prior to August 15 to ensure that your account is adjusted appropriately. If you withdraw after your tuition deadline, you will still be responsible for paying the late payment fee, if one was assessed.
