How do I withdraw (i.e. drop all of my classes) for Summer 2008?
This checklist provides an overview of the steps necessary to withdraw from the Lawrence campus for the Summer 2008.

If you have questions you may contact the Student Records Center, 151 Strong Hall, (785) 864-4423, kuregistrar@ku.edu.

If you need assistance in understanding your options as well as the consequences of withdrawing entirely from KU, you may contact the Academic Achievement and Access Center, 22 Strong Hall, (785)864-4064.

CAUTION: Reactivation fee (non-refundable): A non-refundable reactivation fee will be assessed if a student declares intent to re-enroll once they have withdrawn or been administratively dropped. The reactivation fee is $75 from the date of initial enrollment through June 9, 2008 and $150 thereafter. The reactivation fee will be assessed for each reactivation of enrollment. To reactivate your enrollment, see the reactivation instructions.

  1. Complete the withdrawal form. Prior to the first day of classes (prior to June 3, 2008) you may fax a signed and dated request for withdrawal to (785) 864-5230, drop one off at 151 Strong Hall, or cancel your enrollment online at www.withdraw.ku.edu/. Be sure to include a daytime telephone number at which you can be reached if there are questions. On or after the first day of classes (June 3, 2008 or after) you must contact your school for the withdrawal forms and any additional instructions specific to your school. If you are enrolled in dual schools you must follow the requirements of both schools (exception: Architectural Engineering students need to contact the School of Engineering only). After July 15, a student cannot withdraw from a course. The course grade will be determined by the student's overall academic performance.
  2. Complete the necessary forms for the course grade, if needed. Refer to The Effect of Dropping on Transcript Grades (8-week courses) to determine how each of your classes will be graded, and whether or not it will appear on your transcript. (Policies for grading courses are determined by the date of withdrawal and the school of the student). If any of your classes require a grade assignment to withdraw, individual drop cards must be completed, receive proper authorization and be submitted with the withdrawal form.

NOTE: Dates for dropping irregular-length courses are adjusted according to the length of the course. Contact the Student Records Center, 151 Strong Hall, 785-864-4423 for specific dates for a specific class.

  3. If you are an international student in F or J status, get approval from an international student advisor PRIOR to withdrawing from the University. Contact the Office of International Student and Scholar Services, 2 Strong Hall, 864-3617.
  4. Submit the forms. Present the completed withdrawal forms and any necessary schedule change forms to the Student Records Center, 151 Strong Hall in Lawrence or room 215 at the Edwards Campus. Keep the green copy of the Withdrawal form as your receipt. Withdrawals are not official until submitted to one of these offices and entered into the database.
  5. Update your address on the Enroll & Pay system.
  6. Check Financial Aid Implications. If you are a financial aid recipient who withdraws (drops all classes) you and the University may be required by federal law to repay some or all of the financial aid you have received for that semester. The date of withdrawal determines whether you receive a refund from KU and how much aid you and the University are expected to repay to the aid program. You will receive a letter from the Office of Student Financial Aid (OSFA) telling you what financial aid your KU adjustment/refund repaid (if applicable). If your KU adjustment/refund is not enough to repay the amount of aid the University must repay to your aid programs, the University Bursar's Office will bill you directly for the difference. Additionally, the letter from the OSFA will indicate if you must repay additional financial aid using your own funds. If you fail to repay this aid or fail to make satisfactory arrangements to repay this aid within 45 days, you may lose your eligibility to receive future aid. For more information about the federal refund policy, contact the Office of Student Financial Aid at (785) 864-4700.
  7. Receive a refund if applicable. CAUTION: To avoid non-refundable late payment fees you must either pay your tuition in full or withdraw from the University by your due date. Your account will be credited based upon the refund period in which you withdraw. Your credit will be applied to any charges to your account. If you have a refund greater than your existing charges, a refund check will be mailed to your billing address. If you do not have a billing address, any refund owed will be mailed to your between semester address.
  8. WARNING: Not attending and/or paying tuition does not result in a cancellation of your enrollment or your financial obligation. You must formally withdraw to ensure that your academic record and financial amounts are appropriately adjusted.

NOTE: Refund/Adjustment dates differ from the dates for academic changes in your class schedule. See refund/adjustment dates.
