Spring/Fall: The staff member must have a salaried appointment starting not later than the first day of the first, full month of the semester and continuing through the 60th class day of the semester

The staff appointment must be with one of the Regents' Institutions (KU, KSU, ESU, PSU, FHSU, WSU), the Board of Regents Office, or one of the ROTC units located at KU. Full-time employees of affiliated programs pay appropriate resident or non-resident tuition, but not campus or area service fees.

Graduate Teaching Assistants (GTAs):**
The assessed tuition amount is waived and three hours campus fee paid by the percentages given below. Any remaining required campus fees or tuition must be paid in full. If the student is eligible, staff rates are assessed first before applying the waiver. Departments submit GTA appointments to the Office of the Provost for approval. GTAs do not have to submit additional paper work, except for summer appointments.

GTA Appointment Staff Rates Tuition/Campus Fee *Adjustment (Rates subject to change)
40 but less than 100% Yes 100%
30 but less than 40% No*** 75%
20 but less than 30% No*** 50%
10 but less than 20% No*** 25%

***A less than 40 percent GTA may obtain eligibility for the staff rate if coappointed to another assistantship (e.g., research) and if together the total is a minimum of 40 percent of full time.
*Maximum campus fee paid is three hours.
**Eligibility requirements for GTA Rates:
Fall: The GTA appointment must start not later than September 1 and must continue for a minimum of four months.
Spring: The GTA appointment must start not later than January 16 and must continue for a minimum of four months.
Summer: Because of the variability of starting dates and term lengths of summer classes, the GTA appointment must start no later than July 1 and must continue for a minimum of 4 weeks. For appointments of 4 weeks duration, the percentage of the appointment will be divided by two for purposes of applying the tuition waiver. If the student has met the GTA eligibility criteria at a 40% or more appointment level for the preceding fall and spring semester and turns in a staff rates form, the student may receive staff rates for the summer session term.
All GTA appointments must have the approval of the Provost. If the GTA appointment for an enrolled student ends or is found invalid before the last day of the applicable term, tuition will be reassessed for the entire term at the appropriate amounts given under Tuition and Fee Schedule and calculated as follows:

  • Tuition will be reassessed for the entire semester or session at the appropriate rates given above under Tuition and Fee Schedule.
  • The applicable adjustment percentage will be applied to the student's reassessed tuition amount. If the resulting amount is greater than what has been paid to date, the student will be expected to pay the difference. If the resulting amount is less than what has been paid to date, the student will be eligible for a refund (provided all other obligations to the University, federal, state or institutional financial aid programs have been paid in full).

General Policies
The information on this page represents the Lawrence tuition and fee schedule. Changes, corrections and additional policies will be posted here and on the bulletin board outside the Student Records Center, 151B Strong Hall.
All tuition and fees for enrollments completed prior to December 20, 2007 are due 4:00 p.m. on January 15, 2008. See the tuition and fees due dates for details.
The amount of tuition and fees due is subject to reassessment if it is determined that the original amount assessed was incorrect or that fees should be reassessed because of a change in enrollment or student status.
Tuition and fees for late-enrolling students who drop classes before fees are paid are not reassessed for the number of credit hours remaining at the time the student pays fees. Instead, the standard adjustment policy is applied to determine the amount of reduction (if any) applicable to the original assessment.
The Comprehensive Fee Schedule (also available for viewing in the Office of the University Registrar) is the final authority. If payment is not received by the appropriate due date (due dates are on the 15th of the month), a $100 late payment fee will be charged to all accounts that have outstanding tuition and fee charges. After the second bill, following the same criteria, another $100 late payment will be charged. After the third billing and all billings thereafter, a 1.5% default fee will be charged. After the first $100 late payment fee has been assessed, students will not be able to obtain transcripts, diplomas, or enroll in future terms until the balance is paid in full. All $100 late payment fees and default fees are non-refundable. Students can petition for a fee waiver online on the Registrar's website.

Tuition
Payment of tuition entitles the student to instruction in classes, guidance and evaluation of individual field work and library privileges.

Required Campus Fees
Payment of required campus fees entitles the student to: (a) most office visits at Watkins Memorial Health Center within the academic term at no charge and other medical services at Watkins Memorial Health Center at an itemized charge, (b) the use of the Kansas Union, (c) admission at student rates (if any) to most campus events within the limit of seats available, (d) copies of the University Daily Kansan, and (e) participation in other activities. Also included is the required contribution to the Educational Opportunity Fund. For specific amounts, see the campus fees page.
